Commercial Water Reclamation and Reuse
Brian is Vice President of Water Control
Corporation and works with new product and market development. Brian
has a B.A. from Kalamazoo College in Economics and is close to
completing his MBA at the University of Minnesota. He has held his
current position for 6 years and has over 16 years experience in the
construction and installation of commercial water treatment systems.
For over 35 years, Water Control has been an active player in the
water treatment and conditioning industry, specializing in packaged
water treatment systems for commercial, institutional, and
industrial applications. In recent years, Water Control has become a
pioneer in the growing market for pre-packaged water reclamation
systems. Engineers in the company’s staff have over 20 years
experience in vehicle wash water, rainwater, backwash, condensate,
gray water, and other wastewater reclamation systems. Brian has
designed many systems for many different, custom applications and
regularly conducts system design seminars for mechanical engineers
(often in conjunction with associations like ASHRAE, ASPE, and ASSE).
Brian’s presentation will focus on
state-of-the-art and applicable technology for water reclamation,
and reuse; with the following subjects to be discussed and analyzed:
How big of a cistern to use when harvesting rainwater, what are the
other sources of reclaimable water, what are applications for water
reclaimed from these sources. Where can you use gray water and how
do these systems differ and what are the benefits and payback. How
to collect, store and sanitize/disinfect the water, and the best way
to deliver the water to fixtures. What system options are available
in the market and code compliance issues. |

Lori Steere, Community Affairs Representative
Office of Water Recycling East Bay
Municipal Utility District (EBMUD); Oakland, CA
Lori Steere promotes the use of recycled water on
behalf of the East Bay Municipal Utility District, where she has
been working as a Community Affairs Representative since December
1999. EBMUD recognized Lori with an Outstanding Performer Award in
2006 and a Team Achievement Award in 2004. Lori serves as the

customer-training project, which included producing two videos, in
addition to a comprehensive customer training manual. This training
program has won four awards at the local, state, and national
levels. Lori also originated EBMUD’s national-award-winning
horticultural site evaluation program for recycled water irrigation
customers. Lori played an important role in getting EBMUD’s Recycled
Water Truck Program into service in August 2008, a few months after
the District declared a water shortage emergency in response to the
drought in California.
Lori is an honors graduate of Scripps College in
Claremont, California, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. |

The Growing Global Importance of
Recycled Water
Some say that in the 21st Century, water will replace oil as that
vital fluid over which wars will be waged. Our limited water
supplies are challenged by many wild cards: climate change and
global warming, diminished snow pack, and unchecked population
growth, among others. The East Bay Municipal Utility District’s Lori
Steere, who promotes its recycled water program, will touch on these
issues and others as she speaks at the March 4, 2010 joint meeting
of the Golden Gate and Redwood Empire ASHRAE and the San Francisco
ASPE about the increasing importance of recycled water in stretching
our water supplies. |
